The school budget crunch is forcing schools to account for every dollar. At Jenks Public Schools, they've implemented creative cutbacks and cost-saving measures to save $500,000.
For some workers it means taking on double duty. In-house substitutes will save the district $200,000. And it's not just administrators and department heads taking on the burden, virtually everyone in the Jenks school district will be called upon. Jim Norris, Jenks Maintenance Director: "I'm probably a little apprehensive like you usually are on something new that you're not familiar with I know with the training we've already received this week we'll be able to handle whatever comes along."
Jenks has canceled two custodian contracts as a way to cut costs, but that also adds extra cleaning duties for current staffers.
