It's the flu season and children in Green Country are out sick from school because of it.

News on Six reporter Patrina Adger says last Friday, The Tulsa County Health Department issued a health advisory to inform school and health providers that middle schools are reporting 10-20% of their students are missing school with flu-like symptoms.

Health officials say symptoms can be anything from fever, headaches, and a sore throat to nausea and diarrhea. Thereâ€™s an incubation period of 1 to 3 days, with recovery time varying between 2 and three days.

The Oklahoma State Department of Heath reports confirmed there are cases of influenza Type A and Type B in the state. Tulsa Health Department Manager Janice Sheehan says mid December is the time when kids are hit. â€œThis is when it usually starts in Oklahoma. It peaks in mid January and we have cases of flu, when you can prevent it."

Sheehan says you should consult your doctor if you feel you have flu-like symptoms. There's a variety of medication available.
