(Idabel-AP) -- One Oklahoma County sheriff's considering patrol cars decorated with advertisers' logos as a way to cut costs.

The idea came from a police department in North Carolina -- a state where NASCAR racers have long promoted sponsors on their vehicles. McCurtain County Sheriff Mike Willeby says the idea might work in southeastern Oklahoma, too.

Willeby's requesting six cars from a company that pairs advertisers with government agencies. The sheriff's department would pay a dollar for each car. The company could buy the cars back after three years for a dollar apiece.

Willeby says each car his department doesn't have to buy would save at least 23-thousand dollars from the budget.
