Tulsa's Fraternal Order of Police is blasting Mayor Bill LaFortune for settling the black officer's lawsuit against the city.

The FOP calls the settlement unacceptable. It says it was "borne out of political expediency, and not based on the principle of truth and fairness." The union's board of directors also says LaFortune misrepresented his positions to the FOP prior to its endorsement of him during the mayoral campaign.

The FOP also claims the consent decree will have an adverse affect on police service. In announcing the settlement last week, Mayor LaFortune said it was the fairest, most cost effective conclusion possible.
