The city of Tulsa is hoping for a strong holiday shopping season to bring in more for Tulsa's cash strapped budget.
Mayor Bill Lafortune told department heads to look for possible ways to trim their budgets. LaFortune hopes tax collections increase so the city won't have to extend salary reductions for the rest of the fiscal year. "I had hoped that if the economy rebounded and that we had better revenues, we could do away with that 2.7% rollback over the last six months. What this means is that will be very difficult to do and still balance the budget."
The Mayor will wait until after the first of the year to decide whether to extend salary reductions.
The city has already saved $6-million by making cuts in travel expenses, new car purchases and by not filling job vacancies.
