(Houston-AP) -- After 18-years in the NBA, Hakeem Olajuwon has decided to retire.
His agent, Dan Fegan, told Houston TV station KRIV yesterday that Olajuwon will announce his retirement on November 9th in Houston.
Olajuwon was unavailable for comment.
The NBA's all-time leading shot blocker and one-time most valuable player started his career in Houston.
The 39-year-old center played with the Toronto Raptors last season after 17 years with the Rockets.
Olajuwon was excused from training camp because of serious back problems. Toronto general manager Glen Grunwald said earlier in the week that he didn't expect Olajuwon to play this season.
Olajuwon led the Rockets to NBA championships in 1994 and 1995.
He averaged seven-point-one points and 6.0 rebounds in 61 games last season with the Raptors.
Olajuwon was selected as one of the NBA's 50 greatest players. He is a 12-time NBA All-Star.
