A Tulsa teacher has received a national honor. Marshall Elementary schoolteacher Ginger Mendenhall-Underwood was surprised at a special assembly Wednesday.
She was one of two Oklahoma teachers to receive the 2002 Oklahoma Milken Family Foundations National Educator Award. "When she announced my name it's like it just, you kind of go through this blank like is that really me and is this really happening, it’s just a thrill."
Underwood gets $25,000, plus an invitation to attend the foundation's national conference in Los Angeles.
She says because budget cuts have made field trips slim, she wants to use part of her winnings to take her class on a special field trip to Oklahoma City.
