Tulsa County District Court jurors unanimously decide against a former Webster High student accused of sexually assaulting a classmate with a broom handle.
It was an emotional verdict; two women jurors, the accused and his mother were all in tears. It took the jury about three hours Monday evening to find the teenager delinquent of rape by instrumentation.
Now he is considered a ward of the state, and the judge is scheduled to decide his punishment next month. The teenager was released to his family with temporary rules including a daily 5 PM curfew.
The incident occurred last fall at Webster High School. The victim says several members of the 9th grade football team held him down, pulled down his pants and assaulted him with a broomstick in a locker room.
This case is far from over. Four other boys also face charges.
