(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A national education group gives Oklahoma a D-plus when it comes to preparing high school students for college.
The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education says fewer than one-fourth of state students take advanced science courses and less than a half take advanced math.
The report says 86 percent of Oklahomans in their late teens and early 20s have finished high school. But only 28 percent are enrolled in college.
The state also received a C grade for affordability of its colleges and universities.
The center's report had some good news.
Oklahoma is one of the nation's leading states for the share of income that families pay for college. On average, Oklahomans pay 17 percent of their income.
