OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ These are challenging times for the Jenks High School football team and its coach, Allan Trimble.

Jenks, the dominant large-school program of the past several years, is just 1-3 and has lost three in a row. It's a remarkable start for a team that had lost four games in Trimble's first six seasons _ all of which ended with state championships.

Last year's team had eight players who received Division I scholarships. Trimble warned before the season that he doesn't have as much major-college talent this season, but ``we've got a bunch of good high school football players.''

They still do, despite what the record may show. Since opening the season with a victory over Bixby, Jenks has lost to the No. 1 team in Class 6A, Tulsa Union; to top-ranked Springdale, Ark., and, last week, to Broken Arrow in overtime. Broken Arrow is now ranked fifth.

Only five players who started for Jenks last season are playing this season. Trimble estimates that ``16 or 17'' of his players are new. All that inexperience, combined with a tough schedule, has spelled trouble.

This week, the Trojans _ still in the rankings at No. 10 _ will try to begin turning things around when they play Tahlequah.

``It's still a team that's coming together,'' Trimble said. ``I still think it's potentially a very good team.''

QUICK HITS: Cordell coach Bruce Hendrickson has 322 victories, tying him with former Rush Springs coach Joe Tunnell for most victories by a coach in Oklahoma. The record could fall this week when Cordell plays Mangum. ... Ponca City's victory over Enid last week left the Wildcats 4-0 for the first time since 1980. ... No, the 2-0 score in the Dickson-Lone Grove game wasn't a typographical error. Dickson got the victory when Lone Grove snapped a punt through the end zone for a safety. ...
