Tulsa is looking at fixing the way it fixes roads. A street maintenance sub-committee took its recommendations to the city Tuesday night.
For the past two months its been trying to come up with ways to balance road repair and smooth driving. So the committee has given the city 20 recommendations. Among the highlights is increase the construction workday by one hour and around the clock where appropriate. And whenever possible, they want rewards for early completion and penalties for late work built into contracts.
16 of the 20 recommendations are now policy. Charles Hardt, Public Works Director: "Many of the things that we've put in this list are things that were underway but had not seen an actual project yet."
The intersection at 91st and Mingo will be the first big test. It will be subject to the new standards.
