The Oklahoma Blood Institute is playing an important role in finding out more about the transmission of West Nile.
OBI says the Centers for Disease Control is collecting specimens from all over the country to find out just how many blood donors are infected with the virus and don't know it.
The research will help determine whether the virus can be transmitted through infected blood.
One thing experts already know is that there is no risk for people who donate blood.
