35,000 Oklahomans have put in their request to hang up on telemarketers. But according to News on Six reporter Rick Wells, many people still have questions on how to get in on the action.
State officials say 35,000 exceeded even the most optimistic estimates. The ‘Do Not Call’ list will only stop some telemarketer calls, not all. Some calls from charities, non profits, politicians and political causes are exempt from the law so are calls to set up face to face meetings and calls from telemarketers you are already working with.
There are three ways to register. The easiest is by phone. There are two numbers you can call in the Tulsa area. 918-584-4411, or call the state wide number 800-390-5708.
You can also register on line at the Attorney General's web site at DO NOT CALL LIST.
And the third way to register is by mail. The mail in cards will be available soon at most public buildings in Oklahoma.
The AARP booth on the lower level of the IPE building at the Tulsa State Fair later this month will be another handy place to register.
There is plenty of time. This law is not effective until January 1st.
