(Kansas City, Missouri-AP) -- Farmland Industries is asking a bankruptcy court to allow it to get out of the fertilizer business.
The Kansas City, Missouri-based agriculture cooperative wants to either sell its fertilizer operations in Oklahoma and other states, or find an alliance with another company.
Farmland has seven nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing plants, including one in Enid. Others are in Kansas, Iowa, Louisiana and Nebraska. The company says the fertilizer plants will continue operating while a buyer is sought.
The company filed for Chapter Eleven bankruptcy protection in May and will need court approval for either option it proposes.
