The Tulsa School Board has voted unanimously for a plan to furlough all 12-month employees.

Thurday night’s vote affects those employees who don't have a direct influence on classroom instruction. They will have to take four days off without pay. Officials say it will save the district $451,000. The district says furloughs are the best alternative to layoffs.

But many employees say it will hurt their families. Vicki Berry, TPS employee "Yeah, $80 that could mean what 2 bills am I not going to pay or do I go without groceries for 4 weeks?"

The furlough dates are set for October 18th, November 27th, January 2nd, and March 20th. Those are dates when Tulsa Public Schools are on break. Also no two dates are during the same pay period
