JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) _ Arkansas State hired Dean Lee as its athletic director on Tuesday.

Lee, the head of athletic development at Oklahoma State since 1997, replaces Paul Griffin, who quit last month after being hired Dec. 6.

Lee takes over an athletic program that is attempting to resolve a $1.9 million deficit.

Lee was athletic director at Arkansas Tech at Russellville, helping the school move from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. He also was the vice president of the Razorback Foundation at University of Arkansas from 1988-95.
