(Norman-AP) -- Oklahoma has a new assistant softball coach.

Howard Dobson was named to the position on Wednesday. Dobson will work with the Sooner's hitters.

Dobson comes to OU from the University of Houston. The Cougars were among the nation's best in batting average and scoring last season.

OU head coach Patty Gasso says Dobson has done some great things at the University of Houston over the past two years. Gasso says the school has strong offensive performance -- results she wants Dobson to bring to OU.

Dobson also served as an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese State.
