Cherokee Nation Enterprises broke ground on a new expansion project Monday in Catoosa.
The $44.5 million project will expand the size of the current casino, and will also add a 150-room hotel, a golf course and eventually a "Trail of Tears" museum. Cherokee Chief Chad Smith says the project will create jobs and provide revenue for the tribal government.
He says it’s another step toward returning the tribe to the self-sufficiency it enjoyed 100 years ago.
