The community of Drumright is celebrating this Memorial Day, hometown style.

Their homecoming took on a patriotic theme this year. Sounds of patriotic pride fill the air in Drumright Saturday. It's homecoming, but when residents past and present gathered on Tiger Hill this year, they did more than just remember the good ole days.

They renewed their patriotic pride. Residents will tell you their town has always had a rare spirit, but one woman wanted to do something to let the world know just how much they love their country. It started with a blank wall. Jimmie Cook, “I saw this wall here and it was not an attractive site. I thought might we could make something beautiful of it.” And that's just what Jimmie Cook set out to do.

She put an article in the local paper, telling folks their town needed a symbol to show the world how they felt, especially in light of the September 11th attacks. “And we could put a flag on this wall and if they wanted to go with it, I said let’s roll.” And with those now infamous words, that's just what they did.

Residents came forward with money for the patriotic project. Students from the University of Central Oklahoma lent their creativity. The result, a beautiful mural of old glory the whole community can take pride in. John Clark, “It’s an anti-terrorism statement that we stand tall even in our small community. Terrorism is a terrible thing, but its not going to affect us.”

So now along with parades, songs, and old friends, residents have a warm feeling they can share with the world.

There are now a total of nine murals in Drumright, each depicting some part of the town's history.
