(Tulsa-AP) -- Former Tulsa football All-American Glenn Dobbs is picking up a national award.

The All-American Football Foundation will honor Dobbs with its Pioneer All-America Award at a banquet next week in Dallas. The award is presented to former student-athletes who distinguished themselves as collegiate All-America players more than 50 years ago.

Dobbs was All-America in 1942 after leading the Golden Hurricane to a 10-and-1 record and a number four ranking in that season's final Associated Press poll.

He played in the American and Canadian Football Leagues before returning to Tulsa in 1955 to serve as athletic director.

He became Tulsa's head coach in 1961, leading the Golden Hurricane to bowl games in 1964 and 1965.
