NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Items from the greatest years in Oklahoma's rich football history will be on display this fall at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History.
The museum on the University of Oklahoma campus will feature a special exhibit titled ``Sooner Football: The Championship Years.'' The exhibit is scheduled to run throughout the 2001 season.
``Sooner football is a sport that is intrinsic to the cultural fabric, heritage and pride of Oklahoma,'' said Michael A. Mares, museum director. ``The sport has made a major contribution to the pride, economic growth and national status of the state and the university.''
The exhibit will focus primarily on the seven seasons in which OU has won national championships _ 1950, '55, '56, '74, '75, '85 and 2000.
The display will feature pictures and video footage of famous games, as well as memorabilia from players and teams. The museum also will be asking former players and OU fans to lend items from their personal collections to round out the exhibit.
``Items from the personal collections of individuals will play a crucial role in the success of the exhibit,'' said Peter Tirrell, associate director of the museum.
People who wish to inquire about loaning objects should call 405-325-8980, or visit the museum's Web site (www.snomnh.ou.edu).
