(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State Senator Bernest Cain of Oklahoma City says the state's kids are fat and he wants something done about it.
Cain says Oklahoma's youth are among the most obese in the nation and he's asking the Legislature to create a task force to study the problem. His proposal has cleared a Senate committee, but he admits he needs help finding ways to make children more fit.
Physical education teacher Cathye Hotaling says she's noticed a change in student fitness since the 1970's. She says a few students were in excellent shape then, a few were extremely overweight, but most were somewhere in between the two extremes.
Hotaling says that today there are still those few in excellent condition, but most of the remainder are out of shape and there are few in the middle range.
