(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Former Governor David Walters is testing the waters for a possible return to politics.
The Democrat was governor from 1991 through 1995. He didn't run for re-election because of a 1993 agreement in which he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor campaign violation. In return, eight felony counts of campaign fraud were dismissed.
Walters says he has no inclination to run for office now, but is considering the possibility because a large number of people have asked him to.
He says the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has offered to help and will likely conduct a poll in the coming weeks. Walters says the poll will likely gauge how he would do in a race against Republican Senator Jim Inhofe.
Inhofe is expected to run for re-election in 2002
