Williams to sell communications solutions unit

(Tulsa-AP) -- Tulsa-based Williams Communications Group says it's selling its Houston-based communications services unit.

In an announcement today, Williams says Platinum Equity of Los Angeles will acquire Williams Communications Solutions properties in the U-S and Mexico.

The unit of Williams designs and implements data, voice, video and Internet Protocol communications networks for businesses.

Terms of the sale are to be disclosed later, but revenues for the Houston unit for the year 2000 are expected to be more than $1.3 billion.

Williams says the sale allows the company to focus on its 33-thousand mile fiber optic network.
