NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Reigning best artist Steven Curtis Chapman was nominated again Friday for the top Dove award from the Gospel Music Association.
He also received nominations for best male vocalist and best song for ``Dive.''
The group Point of Grace announced the nominations in 41 categories. Winners will be announced April 26 at the Grand Ole Opry House.
Dove Award nominees and winners are selected by the 5,500 members of the GMA, a trade organization that promotes Christian music.
Nominated for best artist along with Chapman were the groups P.O.D. and Third Day, along with Michael W. Smith and Jaci Velesquez.
Third Day lead singer Mac Powell was nominated for best male vocalist, and his band was nominated for best group.
Fred Hammond was nominated for best urban song for co-writing ``I Want My Destiny'' and traditional gospel song for writing ``When You Praise.''
Joining Powell and Chapman in the male vocalist category were Smith, Fernando Ortega and Mark Schultz.
The nominees for best female vocalist were Yolanda Adams, Rachael Lampa, Nicole C. Mullen, Nichole Nordeman and Velasquez. Avalon, P.O.D., Plus One and Point of Grace will compete with Third Day for the best group award.
The best new artist nominees: Rachael Lampa, Mary Mary, Stacie Orrico, Plus One and Schultz.
Stars known more for other kinds of music were nominated, including country singers Randy Travis (bluegrass album for ``Inspirational Journey'') and Dwight Yoakam (bluegrass song for ``Miner's Prayer'') and erstwhile disco diva Donna Summer (special event album for ``Child of Promise'').
