ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Anaheim Angels avoided salary arbitration with pitcher Mike Holtz by agreeing to a $705,000, one-year contract.
The left-hander went 3-3 with a 5.05 ERA in 61 games with the Angels last season. The 28-year-old has a career 13-15 record and 4.49 ERA in 238 games.
Holtz, who made $400,000, asked for $850,000 for 2001 and the Angels countered with an offer of $600,000.
Under the terms of Wednesday's agreement, he can make an additional $50,000 in performance bonuses: $5,000 for 55 games, $10,000 for 62 games, $15,000 for 70 games and $20,000 for 75 games.
