WASHINGTON (AP) — President Clinton will visit his home state one last time during his administration as he makes Little Rock one of the last stops on his farewell tour.

The president will head to New York when he leaves Washington on Inauguration Day, White House spokesman Jake Siewert said Wednesday.

The president had been trying to decide whether to go to Arkansas, where he was governor and where his presidential library will be located, or New York, where his post-presidential offices will be, after George W. Bush is sworn in as president.

But Clinton has opted to spend his first night out of the White House in Chappaqua, N.Y., where the Clintons own a home, Siewert said. That home will be Clinton's primary residence after his presidency ends, aides said.

First lady Hillary Clinton, who will accompany the president, is also the junior senator for New York.

While in Arkansas next week, Clinton will speak to the Arkansas Legislature, attend a few private events and ``probably see some old friends,'' Siewert said.

``I think this will give him a chance to thank the people of Arkansas who have supported him throughout the years, and to look forward to the work that he'll be doing down there in conjunction with his presidential library,'' Siewert said.

That trip could be one of the last Clinton takes as president. He has been on a whirlwind tour in the final weeks of his presidency, visiting East Lansing, Mich., and Chicago on Tuesday and heading to Dover and Manchester, N.H., and Boston on Thursday.
