(Okmulgee-AP) -- One of two men who allegedly escaped from the Tulsa Jail turned himself into authorities today in Okmulgee.

Jerome Garfield was wanted on a complaint of possessing a stolen vehicle in Okmulgee and was waiting to be transferred there when Tulsa Jail officials said he left the jail Friday.

Okmulgee Sheriff Department officer Mike Stacy says Garfield walked up to him today and said he saw he was wanted on the news. Stacy says Garfield denied escaping from the jail. He claimed the jail released him.

A Tulsa Jail spokesman says Garfield walked into a jail release room with six other inmates and then walked out of the jail with them.

A prison official says the jail has received no information concerning a second escapee, John Davenport.

Tulsa Jail officials say Davenport escaped by running out a side door where police officers enter and exit the jail.

Authorities say he was brought into the jail on complaints of trespassing, false impersonation and using a fraudulent drivers license.
