(Tulsa-AP) -- As expected, Oklahoma officials learned today that the state will lose a congressional seat beginning in 2002.
Oklahoma is among several states that are losing a U-S Representative because of slow growth in population. The U-S Census Bureau's results of the population survey will be used to reassign the 435 seats in the U-S House among the states.
State Representative Bill Paulk of Oklahoma City will chair the state House committee helping redraw the boundaries of the six congressional districts into five districts.
He says the final numbers to determine where the boundaries will be drawn won't be available until the first of April.
Paulk says the committee's work will be completed by the last Friday in May.
