The Oklahoma Historical Society's Honey Springs Battlefield Civil War Candlelight Tour has been rescheduled for March 30 and 31, according to an announcement by O-H-S Society Programs and Education director Whit Edwards. The Honey Springs battlefield is located just north of Checotah near Rentiesville.
"We decided we would have a better opportunity for reaching more people in March," said Edwards. "We did not have any candlelight tour living history events scheduled in the spring. We held one in November at Fort Washita, and one in December at Fort Gibson."
The Battle of Honey Springs was fought on July 17. 1863, on both sides of Elk Creek which flows through the historic site. A 3,000-square-foot Visitors Center also will be developed about two miles north and east of the monuments. For more information, call 918/473-5572 or e-mail .
