(Broken Arrow-AP) -- The Broken Arrow City Council will consider a proposal tonight that would hand over 200 acres of land to Northeastern State University.
N-S-U-Broken Arrow is now leasing a portion of the land as part of a voter approved agreement to build the campus and give the school 87 acres.
City officials say another vote could be held that would allow N-S-U out of that agreement.
Another problem is that the land was originally purchased for a future park and officials will have to find a way around that clause.
City Manager Michael Kadlecik says the college wants firm ownership to ensure that its future growth isn't impeded. He says school officials would also be in a better position to ask for funding from state regents.
The university is to open in fall 2001.
