TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A man accused of fatally shooting a Tulsan last week has been arrested, police said.
Dennis Leon York, 38, was taken in custody on complaints of first-degree murder and possession of a controlled drug, police reports said.
York was arrested in the death of Dennis Paul Valenti, 44, who was found dead early Nov. 30 when two visitors entered an unlocked apartment after knocking several times without receiving an answer.
York was apparently identified as a possible suspect by anonymous sources and police said they had been searching for him for days. Officers located York Tuesday afternoon, Sgt. Wayne Allen said.
Police were talking to him when they saw a bag of marijuana on the coffee table in the living room of the house, the report said.
York allegedly said that the bag of drugs was his, police reports indicate.
Police then started interviewing York about the homicide. Allen said York and Valenti were acquaintances. During his interview with a detective, York reportedly said that he went to see Valenti at the apartment on the day of his death.
According t the report, York said he found Valenti asleep on the couch and pointed the gun at Valenti's head to scare him. York told police that Valenti, "grabbed for the gun with his hands and pulled the weapon, causing it to discharge," the report states.
Valenti died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
