LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jon Bon Jovi says he's astounded when people ask about his comeback.

Bon Jovi and his Jersey pop-metal rock group have been absent from the music scene for five years. But the singer-turned-actor says he never went away.

``I never thought that five years away was really that much. Turns out it's more like 35. It should be measured in dog years,'' he said.

The band is back together and touring to promote its latest album, ``Crush,'' which has gone platinum. A single from the album, ``It's My Life,'' won the Video of the Year award at Thursday night's ``My VH1 Music Awards.''

Before reuniting with bandmates, Bon Jovi released a solo album and appeared in nine films, including ``U-571'' and ``Pay It Forward.''

``It's really humbling to have this sort of popularity again,'' he said. ``But we're a veteran band now. We're not kids anymore.''
