(Jay-AP) -- Taxpayers in the Kenwood School District have another reprieve from the possibility of seeing their property taxes more than quintupled.
The Delaware County Excise Board is again delaying a vote on the tax levy while the school board considers using federal funds to pay a court judgment.
The district is trying to determine if the federal government will object to the use of Impact Aid Funds to Indian Children to pay a former superintendent. The superintendent was awarded more than 300-thousand dollars in a wrongful termination lawsuit. About 200-thousand dollars is still owed.
The state Attorney General's Office has issued a preliminary ruling that the federal money can be used if the federal government does not object.
Property taxes will increase more than five-fold if the federal money can't be used.
