(Jay-AP) -- State school Superintendent Sandy Garrett believes the Kenwood School District will need federal approval to use federal funds to pay a legal judgment.
The district lost a more than 300-thousand dollar wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former superintendent Garland Lane. More than 200-thousand dollars is still owed to Lane.
The Attorney General's Office is expected to issue an opinion today on whether the district can use federal Impact Aid Funds to Indian Children to pay the judgment.
If the district is not allowed to use the federal money taxpayers will get the bill. Property owners in Kenwood could see their taxes quintuple from an average of 400-dollars a year to more than two-thousand dollars a year.
