The Dallas Stars showed that they are not a one-dimensional team.
Dallas got goals from five players, and 14 players had at least a point as the Stars used a five-goal flurry in the second period to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 on Monday night.
Stars coach Ken Hitchcock had been concerned that the team was depending on Brett Hull for too much of their offense. A quick look at the stat sheet from Monday's game put Hitchcock's fears to rest.
Hull scored his 12th of the season, but five other Stars also scored.
``When you look at the teams that score big numbers, they're getting it from throughout the lineup,'' Hitchcock said. ``We had a lot of people who needed points, so tonight was good for a lot of guys.''
In the only other NHL game, Detroit defeated Nashville 6-3.
Monday's game was especially good for Brad Lukowich and Roman Lyashenko, who scored their first goals of the season.
``I've got two shots this season, so obviously I'm not out there to score,'' said Lukowich, who opened the scoring. ``I'm out there to play physical and keep the puck out of our net.''
Lyashenko, Mike Keane, Mike Modano and Hull scored in a seven-minute span in the second period.
Hull's team-leading 12th goal was the 622nd of his career.
Joe Nieuwendyk scored in the third period for Dallas.
``We wanted to keep putting the puck on the net and keep the pressure on,'' said Lukowich.
Backup goalie Marty Turco also benefited from the Stars' offensive outburst.
Turco, who made his first start in a month and third of the season, finished with 18 saves.
``I felt really good,'' Turco said. ``It's tough getting into a rhythm, especially with the first shot being a breakway.''
Red Wings 6, Predators 3
Nicklas Lidstrom scored twice and Martin Lapointe added his team-leading 11th goal as the Red Wings scored three goals in the first eight minutes.
Vyacheslav Kozlov scored the second fastest goal of the season with a shot from the right faceoff spot 37 seconds into the game.
