A Catoosa boy got quite a surprise at his school Monday. It involved a big assembly of students, and a large amount of money. J-W Sam Elementary third grader Stephen Potter was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union. Potter was one of several thousand students who entered a tuition sweepstakes contest sponsored by the credit union. The school was awarded $500 as well. "One of the things I plan on doing with this is buying books for the library," said school principal Joe Bates.
The $2,500 will be put into an account at the credit union in Potter’s name to be used for college expenses later on down the road. Two Tulsa students also won scholarships, one from Edison High School and one from Memorial High School. The names of the winners have yet to be announced.
