FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Fort Smith Northside quarterback Matt Jones has given his oral commitment to Arkansas.
Jones, 6-6, 206, chose Arkansas over Oklahoma and is the Razorbacks' fifth commitment. He said Sunday that he made his decision about a week ago but wanted to wait until the Grizzlies' season ended. Northside suffered a Class AAAAA quarterfinal loss to Cabot on Friday.
Jones, a standout basketball player as well, transferred from Van Buren to Northside before the season to get more exposure as a quarterback.
While Jones wants to play quarterback, he didn't rule out playing wide receiver if quarterback doesn't work out. Jones said if he couldn't crack the top two on the depth chart at quarterback, he would want to play another position until he did.
``I just want to play, be on the field my freshman year,'' Jones said. ``I'm not going to refuse to move. I'll know if I can't do it.''
