(Tulsa-AP) -- A 74-year-old man charged with wounding a Tulsa County deputy sheriff is moving from a mental hospital to a nursing home.
Special District Judge Clancy Smith has ordered Eastern State Hospital in Vinita to transfer Darrow Manning Ford to a nursing home upon arrangements made by Ford's lawyer.
A court order says Ford can't give himself the care he needs. A report from Eastern State said Ford is highly unlikely to ever attain competency to stand trial.
Ford is still charged with shooting with intent to kill Deputy Randy Pierce.
Pierce was trying to take Ford into custody for a mental evaluation when Ford allegedly shot him. Ford has been at Eastern State since 1998.
