(Tulsa-AP) -- A six-year prison sentence has been handed down to a man who was accused of stealing a four-year-old boy from a day-care center.
Timothy Paul Etchison pleaded guilty to child stealing last month. Etchison was accused of taking his common-law nephew from a Tulsa day-care center in May.
Police say Etchison wrongly told the staff that he had permission to pick up the boy. The child was returned uninjured to his own doorstep about 12 hours later.
Etchison was arrested in Missouri the next day. He says he took the boy because he had been denied access to his own daughter, whose mother is the sister of the boy's mother.
Etchison will receive credit for the nearly six months he's already served in jail.
