A 60-year-old man is recovering at a local hospital after a Broken Arrow police officer shot him Tuesday night. Broken Arrow Police say officer Beth Shaw tried to stop a vehicle when it ran off the road into a ditch. When she approached, the car started coming towards her. "It appears that he put it in reverse, and she got on the radio and called in that he was going to ram her,†said Captain Todd Wuestdwalt, police spokesman. “And at that point, one shot was fired by the officer."
The driver is identified as 60 year-old Leslie Napier. He was taken to St. Francis hospital for treatment. Napier was listed in serious condition Wednesday morning. Charges of driving under the influence and assault with a dangerous weapon will be presented to the Wagoner County District Attorney.
The officer was not injured.
