(Tulsa-AP) -- A black Tulsa police officer says he was the target of racial profiling by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper.

Officer Keenan Meadors says in a letter to Public Safety Commissioner Bob Ricks that he was stopped on August 25th on a bogus charge. The 15-year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department says a white, male trooper that he identifies only by the last name of Hoyt pulled alongside his car then dropped back. He says the trooper then stopped him.

Meadors says he was told he was stopped on suspicion of drunken driving and for having a broken taillight. He says he doesn't drink and does not have a broken taillight.

Ricks says he has received the letter and the incident is under investigation.

State Representative Don Ross says the complaint is the first under a new law that prohibits police from detaining or arresting anyone based on race.
