SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — San Jose State football player Neil Parry was scheduled to have part of his right leg amputated on Monday, nine days after he was injured during a game.

The 20-year-old sophomore sustained a compound leg fracture on a kickoff return Oct. 14 against UTEP.

An infection developed after surgery. San Jose State's team physician said Sunday an amputation would be necessary.

Parry is the younger brother of Josh Parry, the Spartans' leading tackler.
