Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremonies at Tulsa’s Expo Square marked the beginning of the phase one improvements to Tulsa County fairgrounds facilities. Improvements will be made to the pavilion building as well as the livestock barns. “Obviously our users are going to benefit,” said interim Expo Square director Denny Tuttle. “It's time they get a new facility, and in the end the community is going to benefit from the economic impact of the national horse shows, and the users that will be using this facility."

The total cost of phase one renovations will be around $21. 5 million. The project is expected to be finished by June 2001.
