(Watts-AP) -- A high school principal facing a felony drug charge is resigning.

Watts High School Principal Joe Weaver faces a marijuana cultivation charge in Delaware County. He submitted his resignation to the Board of Education on Tuesday. It is to become effective on December 31st.

Watts, his wife Carolyn and nephew Shane Weaver were arrested in August. State drug agents say they saw marijuana growing in the backyard of the couple's home at Afton.

Carolyn Weaver is an Afton school teacher.

Both Weavers were suspended with pay pending the outcome of the charges.

The felony charge against Carolyn Weaver has been dropped, but she still faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
