NEW YORK (AP) — Left-handers John Halama of the Seattle Mariners and Denny Neagle of the New York Yankees — neither having pitched in the opening round of the playoffs — will start Tuesday night in Game 1 of the AL championship series.
Halama had a 14-9 record with a 5.08 ERA this season. He won his last three starts in September, including two critical games down the stretch.
Neagle, acquired by the Yankees from Cincinnati in July, was 7-7 with a 5.81 ERA for New York. He has pitched in 10 playoff games during his career, including two World Series starts for Atlanta against the Yankees in 1996.
