America's largest retailer is experimenting with its latest store concept in Tulsa. Wal-Mart opened a new grocery store Wednesday called "Neighborhood Market" located at 81st Street and Sheridan Avenue. The store offers a full line of grocery items, beauty products, and a pharmacy. It is the seventh â€Neighborhood Market†Wal-Mart has opened in Oklahoma. It is the first store in Tulsa.
Wal-Mart says the stores are smaller than its supercenters and offers customers more convenience. However, some competitors say with the high number of grocery stores already in the area, there are too many stores for all to succeed. "We do research on different areas to see if it's viable to build a store, and this area of Tulsa would surely show that,†said Reasor's Grocery spokesman Doyle Kirk. “We feel they (Wal-Mart) did it just because they're big, so therefore they can."
A Wal-Mart spokesman says competition makes its stores and its competitors better, thus the end result is better prices, and products for consumers.
