(Muskogee-AP) -- Muskogee authorities have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Authorities say 28-year-old Roger Neighbors has been been arrested on a homicide complaint. Authorities allege that Neighbors told them he shot Lavonne Dora Vera yesterday when she ran at him with a machete.

Prosecutors say the initial investigation shows evidence of self-defense, but they stress the investigation is incomplete.

Prosecutor David Pierce says authorities will wait for reports from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the state Medical Examiner's Office before deciding whether to file charges.
