(Undated-AP) -- Fifth-ranked Texas takes its two-quarterback show to Palo Alto, California, tomorrow for a rematch with Stanford.
Texas scored on its first six possessions en route to a 69-to-17 win over the Cardinal last year. Tomorrow, the one-and-oh Longhorns will find Stanford off to a one-and-one start.
Sophomore Chris Simms got the start at quarterback in the 'Horns' 52-to-10 season-opening win over Louisiana-Lafayette. But it was 1999 Big 12 co-offensive player of the year Major Applewhite who completed 18-of-26 passes for 315 yards and four touchdowns.
Applewhite threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns last season against Stanford.
------ In other games tomorrow involving Texas Big 12 teams: -- One-and-oh Baylor has already matched its win total of 1999.
The Bears will host the one-and-one Golden Gophers of Minnesota tomorrow in the Baylor home opener. Baylor hasn't played Minnesota before, but it's just 2-8-and-1 against Big Ten teams.
-- Three-and-oh Texas Tech plays its fourth straight home game as it hosts the oh-and-one Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Red Raiders have won all four games in the series, averaging 48 points in each game.
-- Texas A-and-M and Texas-El Paso both take one-and-one records into tomorrow's game in College Station as they renew an instate rivalry dormant since 1984. U-TEP is averaging 377 yards per game in total offense, but is giving up 453 a game.
In another game of Texas interest, Oklahoma State seeks its second win in as many games as it debuts its new artificial turf field against one-and-one Southwest Texas. The Cowboys didn't have a 100-yard rusher in 1999, but senior Reggie White ran for 187 yards in the season-opening 36-to-26 win at Tulsa.
