ALVA, Okla.-Matt Walter ran for 74 yards and three touchdowns to lead Northwestern Oklahoma to a 49-7 win over East Central Saturday night.
Northwestern dominated the game offensively, gaining 489 net yards including 353 rushing yards. The Rangers' 42-point margin of victory was the largest in the series with East Central.
Walter scored in the first quarter on a two-yard run and again in the second quarter on a two-yard run. His one-yard TD run in the third quarter made the score 28-7.
Northwestern (2-0) closed out scoring with a 68-yard punt return by Lynn Scott with 5:52 left in the game.
East Central (0-1) managed 213 total yards, 135 of them in the air. The Tigers' only score came in the second quarter on a 19-yard run by Curtis McAfee.
The win extended Northwestern's winning streak to 20 games dating back to 1998.
